Every woman has gone out for dinner and a movie more times than she cares to remember. You want her to think you’re different! Let’s explore some great ideas for a first date, starting with a unique spin on dinner and a movie.
1. The Dinner Theater
Dinner theaters can be either live theater or movies. Get a glimpse into her personality when she reacts to an actor trying to get her into the drama. Better yet, show of your dramatic flair and get involved yourself!
Movie dinner theaters show all types of movies. If your date is into French culture, take her to see a French film. (Don’t worry, there are subtitles!) Second-run theaters are great for enjoying old favorites together.
2. Five Bucks and a Dollar Store
This is a unique post-dinner activity. Go to the dollar store and hand your date $5 (plus sales tax). You will each purchase five items that describe your personality and then meet up outside to describe your loot. What will she choose? What will you choose?
3. Quiz Bowl
Show off your smarts at a local bar or restaurant for trivia night. A little competition is fun, especially when there’s food and drink involved. See if you share the same pool of useless trivia or whether your combined knowledge makes you a team to be reckoned with!
4. Open Mic Nights
Since most open mic nights are at cafés, you’ve got food and entertainment in one place! You don’t have to get on stage – but if you’re a musician or poet, please do! It’s a good place to marvel at local talent and cringe at local not-so-talented.
5. Get Out in Nature
A long walk is good for your health and promotes conversation in a way that sitting in a booth at TGI Friday’s just doesn’t. The bonus? Most botanical gardens are home to wedding venues. Drop a quick compliment about the ceremony and she’ll be able to cross “commitment-phobe” off her mental list.
6. Unique Sports & Activities
Although mini-golf is far under-used as a first date, why not go one step further? Maybe bocce ball, candlepin bowling, surfing lessons or snorkeling? (Bonus points if she agrees on a first date involving a bathing suit!)
7. “Staycation”
Pretend to be tourists in your own hometown. Take the bus tour, go to the historical society, stroll down the riverfront, and ask for directions with reckless abandon. Try to learn something that you never knew about your hometown.
8. See and Be Seen
Take a walk down the ritziest street in town, stopping in to the boutiques to admire things. Laugh at the trophy wives in their perfectly matched exercise outfits and Tiffany jewelry. Enjoy all the sights and sounds before you find the Starbucks to settle in for a latte. Life is good.
9. Flea Market
For a date with a sense of humor and adventure, a flea market can be an absolute blast. Where else can you buy fine furniture, antique photographs, a bust of Elvis, and a tattoo? If you’re looking to rule out high maintenance girly-girls, this is definitely a great date choice. Will she laugh at the poor hygiene of the vendors or whip out her hand sanitizer?
10. Get Your Game On
If you’re lucky enough to find a girl who loves games, why not have a friendly competition at the local arcade? Challenge her to the ultimate Ski-Ball or DDR competition. You provide the tokens and whoever wins gets to choose the dinner location. (Did I mention you can buy some sweet prizes with all the tickets you win?)
In the End…
You’ve picked a unique location and shown that you’re more creative than the other guys she’s dated. Now, relax and be yourself. Have fun and let your natural self-confidence shine. That’s what will make her want to see you again and again.
